Volunteering Opportunities
If you’d like to make a long lasting difference to communities in Malawi you can volunteer to help the educational initiatives of the Tongole Foundation. Working alongside the community you will help renovate local schools for a maximum of 10 days. Your exact duties will be allocated in accordance with your previous experience and capabilities.

Full background checks, including police reports, qualifications and experience will be will be carried out prior to any placement working alongside children.
About The Area
Malawi is a country rich in culture where you will be sure to receive a warm welcome and big smiles from the friendly people. Located in Southeast Africa the country boasts dramatic scenery, with rainforests, sparkling clear lakes and an abundance of birds.
The Nkhotakota Reserve, situated close to Lake Malawi, the third largest lake in Africa, offers rugged terrain, Miombo woodlands, rainforests and rivers. This area has one of the largest elephant and game reintroductions in history and now offers over 1500 game animals to discover during guided walking safaris. And, with giant kingfishers, palm nut vultures and 130 other species of bird life the reserve is a paradise for bird lovers
The lodge is located in a very remote area of Malawi, however there are plenty of activities and adventures to be had in the reserve all of which can be arranged by the lodge:
Discover the incredible variation of birds within the reserve with a bird watching tour
Head deep into the wilderness with your own armed guard to on a walking safari that will bring you close encounters of the wild kind
Take a hike up the Chipata Mountain or Kasukusuku Hill for unforgettable views over the reserve
Get to know the local community at the local village where you will be able to see the schools your holiday is helping to sustain, buy your souvenirs direct from the craftspeople and witness traditional Malawian music and dance
Go canoeing for a peaceful and tranquil opportunity to witness animals from the river
Explore the pristine and beautiful crystal clear waters and colourful fish of Lake Malawi

Meet the hosts
The Tongole Foundation was created to work with communities outside the reserve to improve access and promote education for children, conservation education and alternative livelihood opportunities to reduce wildlife poaching within the reserve. The Tongole Foundation has enabled over 350 children access to good education at the new Chilimani Primary School.
How To Get There
Fly - The nearest International Airport is the Lilongwe International Airport located approximately 250 kms from the lodge. On arrival at the airport you can either take a charter plane directly to the lodges airstrip or take a 3-4 hour scenic drive
Drive
From Lilongwe / The South - Head to Sailma and branch off at Kaphatenga past Nkhota town on the Dwangwa Road. Cross Kaombe Bridge and the police roadblock. Take a left after passing Lozi Trading Centre.
From the North pass through Dwangwa sugar plantation, cross Bua river and turn right where its sign posted Nkhota Kota Wildlife Reserve. The lodge is 27km away from the tarmarc road.
