Tucked into the banks of the Sweni River in a private concession of South Africa’s Kruger National Park, Sweni Lodge offers exceptional viewing opportunities from the comfort of the glass walled suites and private suspended viewing decks amongst the trees.  Each suite has a contemporary chic design with recycled materials and splashes of vibrant colour inspired by wildlife of South Africa. 

Ideal for getting as close to nature as possible the close proximity of the suites to the riverside offers some breathtaking opportunities to view the animals as they visit the riverbanks for a drink. The outdoor daybeds offer the chance to sleep under the night sky to the sound of the wilderness for an extra special safari experience.

About The Area

Based in the north east of South Africa, close to the border of Mozambique, Sweni Lodge is located in a 33,000 acre private concession of the Kruger National Park beside the Sweni River.

At 19,485 square kilometres Kruger National Park is one of the largest national parks in the world! The high populations of animals has given the park world renowned status and is home to the rare and endangered African wild dog, elephants, rhinos, leopards, lions and cheetahs to name but a few as well as a diverse variety birdlife.  

There’s plenty to do and see included in your stay with daily game drives, walking safaris and birdwatching. Below are just a few suggestions of daily activities available:

Meet the hosts

Founded by Luke Bailes, Singita have been preserving African wilderness for over 25 years across six regions. Singita proudly operate 13 lodges and camps, each with their own unique experience and landscapes to provide guests with a life changing safari experience that will transform their outlook as well as leaving a long lasting positive impact on the community and conservation of the natural area. 

How To Get There

Due to the remote area Sweni Lodge can arrange your journey with scheduled flights or private charters to the lodge. 

Air: Direct flights are available from Johannesburg (1hr 30mins) or Nelspruit (45mins) airports to the Satara Airstrip, which is approximately a 40 minute drive from the lodge, where a member of Singita staff will be waiting to take you to the lodge by safari jeep. Please note that due to the small aircraft luggage weight restrictions of 20kg apply

Drive: It is possible to drive to the lodge from Johannesburg (8hr drive) or Hazyview (3-4hr drive). Driving directions can be provided by the lodge with your booking confirmation.
