About The Area

Makabata is located in the Malate district of Metro Manila City.  This area is a vibrant and authentic Filipino neighbourhood with a vast array of shopping malls and restaurants all within walking distance of the guesthouse. Manila Bay and the Cultural Centre of the Philippines are both less than a mile away. 

There’s plenty to do in the city, with UNESCO Heritages sites, cultural experiences and fantastic shopping opportunities. Here are a few of our favourites for your trip: 

• Explore the historic walled city of Intramuros, with its colonial Spanish buildings, blending with traditional Filipino atmosphere and the stunning UNESCO church of San Agustin. 

• Shop til you drop at the Mall of Asia - the 12th largest shopping mall in the world covering an incredible 406,962 square meters you’ll need a full day just to see what’s there! 

• Head to Manila Bay for a sunset meal overlooking the yachts and calm seas

• Chill out in Rizal Park, a beautiful green space within the city that also has an important historical history - a large statue stands to commemorate the execution of José Rizal in 1896 and 50 years later independence was officially declared here

• Take a Jeepney Ride - Up until recently Jeepney’s were the official public transport used in Manila.  Adapted from old American Military Jeeps, each jeepney has its own fantastic show of bright colours and graffiti style art. Now the government has pledged to remove the Jeepney’s from the streets replacing them with eco-friendly vehicles

How To Get There

Fly - Makabata Guesthouse is only 7km from Manila International Airport - the best way to travel from the airport is to take a taxi. 

Public Transport - Take the train to Quirino Ave LRT Station, from there Makabata is about a 10 minute walk away 

If you’re getting a Jeepney along Taft Ave ask the driver to stop at Quirino Avenue.  Look out for the zoo, the guesthouse is just across the playground from the zoo
