Volunteering Opportunities
If you’ve fallen in love with the donkeys at EcoSuites Caves and want to actively help you can get involved for a few hours of your holiday to help care for these gentle animals. Working from 9 - 11am on Wednesday mornings you will help feed and clean the donkeys and maintaining the area. It's free to volunteer and no skills or experience are necessary, just a love of donkeys and a proactive attitude.
About The Area
As the largest of the Canary Islands, Tenerife offers something for everyone, with lively beach resorts, mountains and volcanic lunar landscapes and two UNESCO World Heritage Sites there’s a whopping 42 protected natural areas to explore. With almost 365 days of sunshine and temperatures consistently between 20°C to 28°C, there’s never a bad time to visit the island.
The lively capital Santa Cruz is a hub of cultural and cosmopolitan style with its many shops, bars, restaurants as well as the beautiful golden sand beach of Playa de Las Teresitas. The city comes alive in February and March with its annual carnival parade when the islanders come dressed in colourful costumes, singing and dancing well into the night.
Other areas not to be missed on the island include the stunning mountain views from the village of Masca in the northwest, where your journey there will take you through deep ravines, hairpin bends and lush green scenery at every turn. Head to the protected Biosphere Reserve of Anaga Mountains to discover a hidden gem filled with forests, deep ravines and astounding views of the Roques de Anaga rock formations. And if you love being high above the clouds then the Teide National Park in the centre of the island promises to deliver with its snow capped Mount Teide Volcano at a height of over 12,000 feet!
Macaronesian Eco Suite Caves is located in the northeast of the island on the edge of the Anaga Biosphere Mountain Reserve in a small, quiet and rural village of Valle Jimenez. Here you will find a small supermarket, authentic restaurants and a gas station but it’s real appeal is the proximity to some of the most beautiful and culturally rich areas of the island. The historic city and World Heritage Site of La Laguna as well as the vibrant city centre of Santa Cruz are only a 15 minute drive, whilst the golden sands of Teresitas Beach can be found only 20 minutes away.
We’re sure you’ll find plenty to do during your stay, from walking with the donkeys to experiencing hair-raising drives through the mountains, but if you’re looking for some inspiration here’s a few suggestions to get you started:
Take a trek with the donkeys and explore the incredible landscape straight from your door
Spend a day at Santa Cruz and hit the shops before enjoying some traditional spanish tapas in the many bars and restaurants
Explore the beautiful surroundings of Anaga Mountain Biosphere Reserve
Summit Mount Teide Volcano on foot or by cable car where you can sit above the clouds
Chill out at the beach in Playa de Las Teresitas with its golden sands lined with palm trees.
Experience underwater worlds with the many diving schools on the island and encounter turtles, rays and possibly even sharks
