About The Area
Riverside Cottages are based on the perimeters of Khao Sok National Park in the Surat Thani province of Southern Thailand. The park is home to a number of wild animals including 5 species of monkey & gibbon, deer, asian elephants and even the world's only known amphibious centipede! As well as an abundance of wildlife the park is also known for its diverse plant life with many fruit and tropical trees, orchids and flowers - visit between January and March to see the giant rafflesia flowers native to the park.
Surat Thani Province (which translates as “City of Good People”) is approximately 3 hours drive from the popular tourist areas of Krabi and Phuket. This region is home to limestone cliffs, tropical islands, beautiful beaches, waterfalls and caves.
The main activity in the area is of course the Khao Sok National Park with its rainforests trails, networks of caves and abundance of plant and wildlife. But there’s lots more to see and do nearby - the staff at Riverside Cottages will be happy to arrange day trips and excursions with local guides on your behalf. Here are a few suggestions of what to do during your stay:
For a fun adventure right outside your cottage try tubing down river. Depending seasonal river flow this could be a slow relaxing float or an exhilarating fast paced ride
Take a guided trek into the jungle and explore caves, waterfalls and plant life
Go on a night safari - when darkness falls the jungle really comes to life. If you’re really lucky you might even spot a slow loris in the trees
Take a day trip or stay overnight in floating cottages at the beautiful Cheow Lan Lake, a 185 square km artificial lake created by the Rajjaprabha Dam
Treat yourself to a traditional Thai massage to soothe your aching muscles after a long journey or active day
See the rainforest from the river with a guided canoe trip
Learn how to create fabulous Thai dishes with authentic cooking lessons using fresh ingredients directly from the jungle
Experience Thai Culture with a trip to the village of Khao Pang

Then, from the train station in Surat Thani, you can take a bus to Khao Sok. When you have arrived at the train station, exit the front entrance and turn right. After 30 meters you will see the stop for the Surat Thani to Phuket bus. Note: Trains in Thailand can often be delayed, therefore, allow some time to ensure you make your connection.
Bus - Several night buses leave Bangkok for Surat Thani every evening (approx. 800-1,100 Baht one-way). The Southern Bus Terminal (Sai Tai Mai) has buses that travel to the southern provinces. You find this bus terminal at Phutthamonthon Soi 1 in Bang Ramat, Taling Chan, Northern Thonburi. From Surat Thani bus station, you can take a bus or shared van to Khao Sok.
From Surat Thani
There are no reliable buses directly from the airport to Khao Sok so you will need to travel to Surat Thani town and catch a bus or train from there. There is a shared van stop with Pantip Travel in front of the airport that can take you to the town for around 100 Baht. Shared vans direct to Khao Sok are sometimes available. Therefore it’s worth asking for one before heading in to Surat Thani town.
Once you’re in Surat Thani town you can take a van, bus or train. Hourly van departures run from from the minivan station (250 Baht) between 7am and 5pm. Alternately, buses depart from the public bus station (120 Baht) every hour between 7am and 5pm. A minivan from Surat Thani to Khao Sok is the fastest option.
From Phuket
Bus - Buses depart from the central bus station in Phuket Town roughly every hour from 7am to 3pm. The bus will take you to the Khao Sok bus stop – the ride is about 4 hours
If you’re coming straight from the airport the public bus has a stop about 5 kilometers from the airport. Buses come from Phuket Town, and reach the stop closest to the airport 30-45 minutes later. There is also a public bus from the Airport to the central bus station in Phuket town.
From Krabi
There is no direct public transportation by bus from Krabi, however, you can book a shared minivan to Khao Sok National Park via most hotels and travel agents. Vans usually leave every day around 9am and 11am (3.5 hours / 450 baht per person). Try to get a van directly to Khao Sok and avoid minivans taking the long detour via Khao Lak.
