About The Area
Located in the 274,690 hectare Tambopata National Reserve, close to the Bolivian and Brazilian borders, the Field Station is one of the last easily accessible areas of the Amazon Rainforest. The reserve offers a wealth of biodiversity and jaw dropping natural landscapes. Although the reserve is home to a vast number of wildlife species, many of the animals tend to shy away from human presence and therefore sightings of animals is unpredictable and cannot be guaranteed. The diverse plant life offers plenty of opportunity for discovery though, giving a spectacular base for bird watching as well as exploration amongst the lakes and wetlands in the area.
The small but busy river port town of Puerto Maldonado lies only 15 km upriver, where you can grab some essentials and experience Peruvian culture before or after your Field Station expedition.
With so much biodiversity on your doorstep you’ll have plenty to see and do, with eco-educational excursions offered with your accommodation, volunteering opportunities and adventure around every corner you’ll have some incredible pictures and stories to take home with you:
Discover the incredible birdlife in the area
Go canoeing upriver to explore the rainforest
Get a monkey’s eye view of the Amazon with the canopy walkways in the treetops
Learn how crucial research and scientific discoveries are made with the many eco excursions on offer
Volunteer to help conservation and environmental education efforts in the area
