Help prevent the spread of diseases, provide medical assistance and empower young people in one of the poorest communities in the Western Hemisphere. Working in health education centres and outreach programmes, this is an extremely rewarding placement giving you a unique insight into working in healthcare field work and the incredible and lasting impact one person can make.
A typical day
After breakfast with your host family you will make your way to the local clinic or outreach centre. Activities can range from working alongside medical staff in local clinics, shadowing medical visits and delivering supplies, to leading interactive health education sessions at youth empowerment groups, delivering Multimedia projects or even helping build hygienic community toilets! The type of work you will be given will depend on the immediate needs of the clinic, your skills, qualifications and length of placement.
Quick Facts
Experience or requirements – Open to all ages, education or professional backgrounds all that is required is an open mind and flexible attitude. Volunteering placements are subject to completion of application form, background checks and pre-volunteering interview if required.
Minimum Commitment – 1 Day (but we recommend 1 week)
Working day – 8AM – 5PM Monday - Friday
Price – from $1034-$1234 (approx £765-£900) per week

Your Accommodation
During your placement you will be provided a room in the homestay accommodation giving you a chance to live within the community and make lasting friendships with your host family. Evening meals and internet access will be provided through by your hosts during your stay.
About The Area
Restauración is just 12km from the Haitian border in the Cordillera Central Mountain range. During your stay you will have the opportunity to integrate with the community through your homestay family.
FIMRC can provide a wide range of cultural immersion experiences and excursions and will provide detailed information on activities upon completion of your application.

How To Get There
Restauración is approximated 3 hours from Santiago in the Dajabon Province. Pick up and drop offs will be arranged and provided by FIMRC.
