Help provide health care education and provide much needed medical support in the creches of the beautiful Indian region of Kodaikanal. During your placement you will participate in providing health check-ups and educational projects within the créches and observing the local hospitals. With tailored experiences based on your interests offered by FIMRC you’ll have lots of opportunity to discover the culture and beauty of this incredible region whilst giving a lasting and life changing impact to the communities of Kodaikanal.
A typical day
After breakfast at your accommodation you will make your way to the rural clinic or outreach centre to assist the medical staff with routine examinations. During the afternoon you may head to the nearby créches to help carry out nutrition initiatives and help teachers with hygiene and health education. You’ll have plenty of opportunity to interact with the children before accompanying staff with home visits to help families understand health and hygiene issues including water and air borne infections, skin and respiratory infections and basic sanitation to improve the overall quality of health in the community. The type of work you will be given will depend on the immediate needs of the clinic, your skills, qualifications and length of placement.
Experience or requirements – No experience or qualifications necessary - just a flexible, patient and proactive attitude. Volunteering placements are subject to a Criminal Background Check and references
Minimum Commitment – 1 Day (2 weeks recommended)
Working day – Monday to Sunday 08.00 – 17.00
Price – $1,499 for trips of two weeks, $695 per week thereafter

During your placement you will be provided with a shared room in the guesthouse accommodation next to the rural health clinic. Guesthouses are equipped with kitchen facilities, warm bucket baths and WiFi access. The guesthouses can accommodate up to four guests so if you’re volunteering with a large group FIMRC will arrange your accommodation with a neighbouring hotel.

Kodaikanal is located in Southern India in the district of Tamil Nadu. Known for its pleasant climate, sweeping mountain views and rich plant life the area is becoming a popular destination for local tourists to escape the heat and enjoy some peace and tranquility in nature. With vibrant rice terraces, mist shrouded mountains and beautiful waterfalls there’s plenty to see and do during your free time

How To Get There
Kodaikanal is approximated 3 hours from Madurai Airport. Pick up and drop offs will be arranged and provided by FIMRC.
