Working in the outskirts of the capital city of Manila you will have the unique opportunity to discover a taste for real Filipino life whilst working to help the communities in the Barangays of the city. Although Manila has had a strong economic growth over recent years over 50% of the population still live on very low incomes and inequality in health care is common as it childhood malnutrition. During your placement you will help deliver health education, assist the health workers within the community and delivering diabetes awareness training. The friendly hospitality of Filipino people will give you an unforgettable experience that will have a lasting impact for children and families living in poverty.
A typical day
After breakfast in your guesthouse accommodation you will assist the Barangay Health Workers to carry out home visits in the rural communities to assess living standards before working alongside medical students and residents to deliver preventative health care and education within the community, including raising awareness on diabetes, first aid training as well as helping local midwives and nurses become proficient in IT for reporting and recording medical notes. The type of work you will be given will depend on the immediate needs of the clinic, your skills, qualifications and length of placement.

Working day – Monday to Friday 08.00 – 17.00
Price – $1,499 (approx £1130-£1140) for 2 weeks, $695 (approx £520-£530) per week thereafter

Your Accommodation
During your placement you will be provided with a shared room in the guesthouse accommodation giving you a chance to live within the community and experience authentic Filipino lifestyle. The guest house has been selected to be as comfortable as possible in the rural community so whilst you can expect modern amenities they will also have a twist of rural flare!

How To Get There
Cavite is approximated 2 hours drive from Manila Airport. Pick up and drop offs will be arranged and provided by FIMRC.
