Help deliver crucial health care education in one of the poorest regions of Eastern Africa, with 40% of the population living in abject poverty and one of the highest HIV rates in the world, as well as tropical diseases prevalent education and medical facilities are desperately needed in Uganda. During your placement you will work alongside the clinic team during daily operations and assist with innovative public health and community outreach initiatives. A typical day
After breakfast in your guesthouse accommodation you will begin your day with a stroll to the local HIV Post Test Club to help deliver education in prevention and support families affected. Following lunch you will take a hike to the Community Health Centre where you will take vital signs and serve the residents of the village. Activities during your placement can range from preparing educational materials, observing medical check ups or assisting with home visits. The type of work you will be given will depend on the immediate needs of the clinic, your skills, qualifications and length of placement.

Working day – Monday to Friday 08.00 – 17.00
Price – $1,499 (approx £1130-£1140) for two weeks, $695 (approx £520-£530) per week thereafter

Your Accommodation
During your placement you will be provided with a shared room in the volunteer guesthouse accommodation which is approximately a 30 minute walk to the local clinic. All beds are equipped with mosquito nets and a laundry service is available. It’s important to be aware that plumbing in this remote area is not readily accessible within the guesthouse accommodation however outhouses and bathing shelters are provided for volunteers to take warm bucket baths. All meals will be provided at the guesthouse during working days, however volunteers will need to purchase their own lunch during weekends
About The Area
Bududa stands at the foot of Mount Elgon in a beautiful but remote area of Uganda approximately 150 miles from the capital city of Kampala. How To Get There
Bududa is located approximately 300 km from Entebbe Airport and the journey will take approximately 6-7 hours by car. Pick up and drop offs will be arranged and provided by FIMRC - You will be met at the airport by the hired driver who will transport you to your placement.
