Meet the hosts
Josh is an avid sports enthusiast and specialises in climbing, skiing, kayaking and mountaineering so it’s no surprise that before opening Crashpad he worked as an Outdoor Instructor in various locations including the Lake District, North Wales and Europe. Josh has been running Crashpad since 2014 after a severe back injury forced him to change career - wanting to help others enjoy the outdoor lifestyle he set about restoring an old lodge to offer a sustainable place to stay for groups eager to explore the outdoors.
How To Get There
Due to the remote location of the bunkhouse a car is essential - getting to the bunkhouse from the road will require a 4x4 so up to 3 cars can be parked in the allocated space a quarter of a mile from the lodge - from there you can either walk or arrange to be collected and taken to the lodge with your luggage.
Crashpad Lodge can be tricky to find so we suggest the following directions listed below to find its whereabouts in the vast Welsh mountains. (Putting the Address of the Bunkhouse into a SatNav will NOT work)
Head for Llanberis and stick to the A4086. You are looking for the mini roundabout next to the Royal Victoria Hotel. Look for the exit onto Victoria terrace and continue all the way down to the end of Victoria Terrace where you will come to a cattle grid taking you up the start of the Llanberis path.
Follow this steep road up past the Snowdon Cafe on your left hand side. Continue up the winding road, passing a large barn on your right. Continue up the road and under the large brick work bridge which the Snowdon Mountain Railway passes over.
The entrance to track of the Bunkhouse is approximately 150m after the brick bridge on the right where you will see a large cattle barn. It will feel like you have gone completely the wrong way but as you pass the cattle barn look down into the valley straight head of you and there you will see the Bunkhouse at the foothill of Moel Cynghorion mountain.
Please note There is only parking for 3 non 4x4 vehicles within a quarter of a mile of the Bunkhouse. Vehicles must never be parked around or in front of the cattle barn at the top of the track to the Bunkhouse. The Livestock will scratch and damage your vehicle. This will also upset the local farmer who needs access to this barn and the land around the barn at all time.
