Run by Christian conversation organisation, A Rocha Kenya, guests staying at Mwamba Guesthouse have the opportunity to actively participate in conservation work, from ringing birds, carrying out fish surveys to planting trees and beach cleans. Guests are also invited to share their experiences with the volunteers and staff over mealtimes, helping clear up after meals together giving you the opportunity to feel part of the community and make lasting friendships.

Volunteering Opportunities
Guests staying at the Mwamba Guesthouse are welcome to participate in conservation activities being carried out during their stay however if you’d like to make a meaningful impact and help protect A Rocha Kenya's conservation areas near Watamu you can apply to volunteer with A Rocha Kenya and the Mwamba Conservation Centre. Volunteering placements are for a minimum of 2 weeks, working from 8am - 5pm, Monday - Saturday. Volunteer tasks may include helping gather conservation research and surveys, participating in clean-ups and tree planting, assisting in hosting guests at Mwamba Conservation Center, as well as delivering environmental education to ensure the long term conservation and protection of the area. Volunteers are given discounted rates for their accommodation and meals.
There’s no requirements to volunteer however placements will be allocated dependent on completion of application form, relevant interests and skills and availability at the centre. If you’d like to apply as a volunteer please include this in the additional information section of the booking form
About The Area
Mwamba Guesthouse is located just 60 metres from the white sands of Watamu Beach and Africa’s oldest marine park. This area is perfect for beach lovers, with the warm waters of the Indian Ocean just steps away. Nearby the small town of Watamu is just a few kilometres away and can be reached by bus or on foot down a quiet road.
There’s plenty to see and do at Mwamba Guesthouse, from volunteering with the conservation Centre to learning to kite surf or just lazing around on the beautiful white sands. Here’s a few of our favourite suggestions to keep you busy during your stay:

Mwamba Guesthouse is run by Christian conversation organisation, A Rocha Kenya, who work together with the local community to protect the beautiful area of Watamu Beach and Marine Park. Mwamba brings together guests of all faiths and backgrounds in the context of a shared passion for protecting the environment.
How To Get There
A Rocha Kenya Mwamba Conservation Centre is well connected by public transport or taxi from Malindi Airport (approx. 30 min drive) or Mombasa International Airport (approx. 2hr drive). Further travel information or arrangements for airport transfers will be provided with booking confirmation
